Robert B. Rowling was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1953. He is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Southern Methodist University. His early career began in the oil and gas industry, where he gained valuable experience working for Tana Oil and Gas, owned by his father, Reese Rowling, and William E. Colson.
Rise to Success
In 1989, Texaco acquired Tana Oil and Gas for $476 million, providing Rowling with the financial foundation to create TRT Holdings in 1989. The company diversified its portfolio and acquired Omni Hotels & Resorts in 1996 for $500 million. Under his leadership, Omni Hotels expanded, becoming a renowned brand in the luxury hospitality sector. Rowling further expanded his business ventures with the acquisition of Gold's Gym in 2004 for $180 million, growing the fitness chain into a global brand before selling it in 2020.
