Early Life
Robert Hale Jr. was born in 1966 and grew up in Northampton, Massachusetts. His father was an entrepreneur, which greatly influenced his career path. Hale attended Connecticut College, where he served as class president and earned a degree in history.
Rise to Success
Hale's career began in sales at MCI. Within a short period, he became the leading salesperson in the country. In 1990, he launched Network Plus, a telecom service aggregator, which quickly grew into a $150 million business. However, the business was sold at auction in 2002. Later in 2002, Hale founded Granite Telecommunications.

Granite Telecommunications focuses on providing voice, data, and other communications services to businesses and governmental agencies across the U.S. and Canada. Hale's strategy included offering excellent customer service and building strong relationships, considering the telecom business a relationship-based one. Granite has secured contracts with over two-thirds of the Fortune 100 companies.
Philanthropy
Hale and Granite have been recognized for their extensive philanthropic efforts, donating hundreds of millions of dollars to hospitals, universities, schools, and local charities. In 2022, Granite was recognized as the most philanthropic company in Massachusetts, contributing over $52.5 million to local organizations.
