Early Life
Robert Alan Faith was born in Oklahoma in 1963 or 1964. He initially pursued a degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Oklahoma, planning to follow his father's footsteps in the oil industry. However, a recession in the oil industry led him to pursue an MBA at Harvard University, which he completed in 1986.
Rise to Success
Faith started his career at Trammell Crow Company, where he eventually became a partner. In 1991, he co-founded Starwood Capital Group with Barry Sternlicht, focusing on acquiring foreclosed multifamily properties. In 1993, Faith founded Greystar in Houston, Texas. Under his leadership, Greystar has grown to become the largest operator of apartments in the United States, managing over one million units globally. Faith also served as the Secretary of Commerce for the State of South Carolina from 2002 to 2006.

He emphasized building a strong operating base and expanding Greystar through strategic acquisitions and developments. In 2018, Greystar acquired Education Realty Trust, making it the second-largest student housing provider in the U.S..
