Richard Sands was born around 1950. His father, Marvin Sands, founded Canandaigua Wine Company in 1945. Sands grew up in a family deeply involved in the wine industry, which laid the foundation for his future success in the beverage sector.
Rise to Success
Sands joined the family business in 1979, taking on various leadership roles. He became president and CEO in 1993 and served as Executive Chairman from 1999 to 2018. Under his leadership, the company expanded significantly, including the acquisition of Robert Mondavi and Svedka vodka, as well as the US rights to Modelo and Corona beers.
