Richard Kurtz was born in 1939. He began his entrepreneurial journey in 1967 by opening a pizza shop in Clifton, New Jersey. After expanding the business to 39 stores, he sold the chain in 1976.

In 1976, Kurtz founded The Kamson Corporation and purchased his first apartment property, a 62-unit building in Trenton, New Jersey. The company grew to control 75 multifamily apartment buildings properties across New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and South Dakota.
