Renate Reimann-Haas was born on October 8, 1951, in Germany. She is the great-great-granddaughter of Karl Ludwig Reimann and comes from a wealthy entrepreneurial family. Her father, Albert Reimann, adopted her in 1965. Renate pursued higher education and holds a doctorate in chemistry. She worked in the organic chemistry department at the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research in Heidelberg.

Renate inherited an 11.1% stake in Joh. A. Benckiser GmbH from her father in 1984. This company later merged with Reckitt & Colman to form Reckitt Benckiser in 1999. Today, she and her siblings are shareholders in JAB Holding Company, a Luxembourg-based investment firm. Renate and her siblings own 95% of JAB.
