Early Life
Rajinder Gupta was born on January 2, 1959, in Bhatinda, Punjab. He came from a modest background, with his father being a small-time cotton trader. Gupta's early life involved financial hardships, which fueled his drive for success. He had to leave school in the 9th grade due to family reasons. His initial career involved working odd jobs, including making cement pipes and candles, where he earned a mere Rs 30 per day.
Rise to Success
In 1985, Gupta took a significant step by investing in a fertilizer business, Abhishek Industries. He later diversified into textiles with the establishment of a spinning mill in 1991, which became the foundation of the Trident Group. Under his leadership, Trident Group expanded rapidly, achieving an annual growth rate of over 30%.
Key Business Strategies
Gupta's key business strategies included diversification into various sectors, including yarn, paper, chemicals, and home textiles. Trident Group focused on exports, with two-thirds of its revenue coming from global markets. Gupta spearheaded the company's growth into one of India's largest yarn spinners and a leading global producer of terry towels.
Philanthropy
Beyond his professional achievements, Rajinder Gupta is known for his philanthropic endeavors. He has supported various educational institutions and charitable organizations. In August 2024, he donated Rs 21 crore to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD).
