Early Life
Radik Shaimiev was born on November 14, 1964, in Kazan, Russia. His father, Mintimer Shaimiev, was the first president of the Republic of Tatarstan. During his early years, Shaimiev attended the physical and mathematical school No. 131 and enjoyed subjects such as algebra, geometry, and physics.
Rise to Success
Shaimiev's career began in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He worked as an engineer at the Kazgrazhdanproekt research institute. In 1992, he became the director of NIRA-Export LLC. Later that year, he and Austrian businessman Nikola Koprovitsa established NIRA company, which annually transferred about 2 million tons of oil abroad. By the mid-1990s, Shaimiev became a key figure during Russia's privatization era. In 1996, he was appointed principal advisor to the director-general of the TAIF Group.
Key Business Strategies
Shaimiev's wealth stems from his co-ownership of the TAIF Group. The company acquired stakes in key enterprises during Russia's privatization. In 2021, TAIF merged with the petrochemical company Sibur, where Shaimiev and other TAIF shareholders received 15% of Sibur in exchange. The main task of TAIF was to prepare the privatization plans of the republic's largest enterprises.
