Piero Lardi Ferrari, later known as Piero Ferrari, was born on May 22, 1945, in Modena, Italy. He is the son of Enzo Ferrari and Lina Lardi. He grew up in Modena, developing a passion for mechanics from a young age. He obtained a high school diploma in mechanics in 1964. His early life was marked by his father's significant role in the automotive world, providing Piero with an early exposure to the industry.
Rise to Success
Piero's career within Ferrari began informally in 1969 as an English translator for his father. He later officially joined the company, serving as a technical supervisor in the early 1970s. He worked in the Formula One team as a co-organizer in the mid-1970s, gaining experience in the operational dynamics of the factory. By the mid-1980s, he became the supervisor of the production of road cars, playing a role in the development of iconic models such as the Ferrari F40, Ferrari F50, and LaFerrari.
Key Business Strategies
Piero inherited his father's 10% share of Ferrari and the Fiorano Circuit in 1988 upon Enzo's death, becoming the sole heir. In 1989, he was nominated vice chairman. His key business strategy included maintaining the brand's racing heritage, overseeing the production of luxury sports cars, and expanding the global reach of Ferrari. He also invested in the Ferretti Group.
