Early Life
Peter Lim was born in Singapore on May 21, 1953. He grew up in a modest two-bedroom government flat in the Bukit Ho Swee public housing estate with his seven siblings. His father was a fishmonger, and his mother was a homemaker. To fund his education, Lim worked part-time jobs, including as a taxi driver, cook, and waiter, while studying at the University of Western Australia. He graduated with a degree in accounting and finance.
Rise to Success
After university, Lim worked briefly as an accountant and tax consultant before entering the world of stockbroking. He quickly found success, earning the moniker "Remisier King" for his ability to generate substantial commissions, particularly from Indonesian clients. In the early 1990s, he invested $10 million in the palm-oil company Wilmar International, which became a major source of his wealth when he sold his shares for $1.5 billion in 2010.

Peter Lim is recognized for his significant philanthropic contributions. He established the SOF-Peter Lim Scholarship in 2010, donating S$10 million to support young athletes. He has also committed to further community projects, and has shown support towards education, healthcare and sports.
