Early Life and Education
Patokh Chodiev was born in Jizzakh, Uzbekistan, on April 15, 1953. He showed an early interest in global affairs, studying international law and Japanese at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO). He graduated with honors and earned a doctorate in political science. His fluency in Japanese led him to a diplomatic career specializing in Russian-Japanese commercial relations.
Rise to Success
Chodiev transitioned from diplomacy to business, capitalizing on the privatization of resources in Kazakhstan after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Together with partners Alexander Machkevich and Alijan Ibragimov, he obtained mineral and gas operations, laying the foundation for Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation (ENRC). ENRC was listed on the London Stock Exchange in 2007, and later restructured into Eurasian Resources Group (ERG).
Key Business Strategies
Chodiev's success stems from his strategic approach to the mining and metals sectors. He focused on acquiring and developing mineral assets in Kazakhstan, Africa, and Brazil. ENRC/ERG became a leading diversified natural resources group. His ventures have included investments in Eurasian Bank and Eurasia Insurance Company.
Philanthropy
Chodiev is known for his philanthropic efforts through the International Chodiev Foundation (ICF), established in 1996. The ICF supports academic research, the arts, and children's causes in Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Japan.
