Rise to Success
Legorreta's career began with a decade at Lazard Frères, where he provided cross-border merger and acquisition and corporate finance advisory services to U.S. and European corporations. In 1996, at the age of 32, he founded Royalty Pharma with an initial investment of $60 million. Royalty Pharma purchases the rights to royalties on future drug sales. The company went public in 2020, with the IPO being one of the largest in the U.S. that year.

Legorreta is the founder and chairman of Alianza Médica para la Salud, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving healthcare in Latin America through educational opportunities. He also made a $25 million gift to Brown University to support cancer research, renaming their cancer center the Legorreta Cancer Center.
