Early Life
Nikolai Buinov was born on June 19, 1967, in Krasnoyarsk, Russia. Growing up in a family of entrepreneurs, he was influenced by business from an early age. He graduated from St. Petersburg State Transport University in 1990 with a degree in engineering.
Rise to Success
Buinov's career began in 1993 at a timber company. In 1995, he and his father founded Bodaibo Energy, a company that supplied fuel and lubricants to gold miners. In 1997, Buinov purchased an oil field license, which became the Irkutsk Oil Company (INK). He co-founded INK with his father and Boris Sinyavsky in 2000. He became President of INK in 2011 and Chairman of the board in January 2022.
Key Business Strategies
Buinov's key strategy has been to focus on the oil and gas sector and expand production, with plans announced in 2017 to increase crude oil production. He also diversified into the hospitality sector with investments in hotels, including the reconstruction of the Wawelberg Bank building.
