Early Life
Norman Murray Edwards was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, on December 10, 1959. He grew up in Regina, the grandson of English and Welsh immigrants and homesteaders. Edwards showed an early interest in hockey, working as a referee while in high school. He was also drawn to politics and public affairs, attending high school conferences on government and policy.
Rise to Success
Edwards graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Commerce (great distinction) and obtained an LL.B from the University of Toronto with honors in 1983. After graduating with a law degree, he began his career in Calgary. He later transitioned into business at age 28, and started a merchant bank. Edwards has launched several major Canadian companies, including Canadian Natural Resources Ltd (CNRL), Ensign Energy Services Inc., and Magellan Aerospace Corporation. His investments in the Canadian oil sands have been a driving force behind his success.
