Mustafa Latif Topbas was born in Istanbul, Turkey, on March 20, 1944. He began his career at a young age, becoming a manager and shareholder at the family textile business, Bahariye Mensucat A.Ş., in 1961.

Topbas's most significant achievement came in 1994 when he co-founded BİM (Birleşik Mağazalar A.Ş.) with Cüneyt and Aziz Zapsu. BİM pioneered the discount retail model in Turkey, focusing on offering a limited range of basic items at competitive prices. Initially serving as Vice Chairman of the Board, Topbas later became the Chairman and CEO, driving the company's expansion.
