Early Life
Mohed Altrad's early life was marked by hardship. Born in the Syrian desert to a Bedouin tribe, he was orphaned at a young age and raised by his grandmother. Denied formal education, he was determined to change his fate. He faced adversity from a young age, his mother died when he was young, and he grew up without a father figure.
Rise to Success
Altrad's path to success began with his determination to get an education. He earned a scholarship to study in France, where he pursued degrees in physics and mathematics and later a PhD in computer science. After working in the technology sector and with the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, he purchased a struggling scaffolding company in France in 1985. This acquisition became the foundation of the Altrad Group.
Key Business Strategies
Altrad's business strategy involved aggressive expansion through acquisitions and diversification. The Altrad Group grew significantly through acquiring other companies, which allowed for the diversification of services to the construction, oil, and gas sectors. This also resulted in increased revenue and market share. The group's strategy of acquisitions has been consistent throughout its history, contributing significantly to its growth and position in the market.
Philanthropy
Altrad's commitment extends beyond business; it includes support for education, culture, and sports. Altrad's impact on rugby, particularly through his chairmanship of Montpellier Hérault Rugby Club, has been significant, driving the club's success. He has also provided financial support for education, health, and cultural initiatives worldwide through the Altrad Foundation.
