Early Life
Michael Ying Lee Yuen was born in Hong Kong in December 1949. His family's origins trace back to Wenchang, Hainan, China. Ying began his career in the garment industry as a laborer.
Rise to Success
In 1970, Ying became the sole sourcing agent for Esprit. He later became the chairman and CEO of Esprit Holdings Limited. During his 13-year tenure as chairman, he oversaw Esprit's global expansion and sales surge. In the mid-2000s, Esprit Holdings Limited generated worldwide sales of around EUR 3.25 billion.

Ying was instrumental in the global expansion of Esprit, overseeing the establishment of over 770 retail stores and distribution to over 15,150 wholesale locations.
Philanthropy
In 2006, Ying started the Yanai Foundation, which focuses on medical and educational initiatives. The foundation has built over 200 schools across 18 provinces.
