Early Life and Education
Michael Tojner was born in Steyr, Austria, on March 31, 1966. He grew up in Haag, Lower Austria. Tojner's academic journey began at the Bundesrealgymnasium Amstetten, where he matriculated in 1984. He pursued higher education at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, earning degrees in business administration and a doctorate. Simultaneously, he studied law at the University of Vienna, also obtaining a doctorate in law.
Rise to Success
Tojner's entrepreneurial endeavors started at a young age, running ice cream stands while in school. He then founded Global Equity Partners in 1998, focusing on venture capital and investments. His significant breakthrough came in 2007 when he acquired Varta, a German battery maker. Under his leadership, Varta became a major player in the microbattery market. In 2006, he founded Montana Tech Components AG, an industrial group encompassing several companies, including Varta AG and Aluflexpack AG. These companies have expanded their operations globally, solidifying Tojner's position as a key figure in the manufacturing sector.
Key Business Strategies
Tojner is known for his strategic investments and ability to identify market opportunities. One of his key strategies involved automating Varta's production to compete with low-labor-cost competitors. He invested heavily in research to boost battery power significantly. Tojner has also been involved in real estate and hotel investments, as seen with his purchase of the Hotel InterContinental Vienna. He has been the driving force behind the growth of Montana Tech Components AG.
