Early Life
Michael Dorrell was born in August 1973, in Australia, and grew up in Griffith, New South Wales. He earned a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of New South Wales in Sydney.
Rise to Success
Dorrell's career began at Macquarie, where he worked for over a decade, eventually becoming a Senior Managing Director. He then joined Blackstone as a Senior Managing Director and Co-Head of the Infrastructure Investment group. In 2011, Dorrell co-founded Stonepeak, an infrastructure investment firm based in New York City, and currently serves as its CEO. Under his leadership, Stonepeak has grown to manage $72 billion in infrastructure assets. Dorrell is also the Chairman of Stonepeak. In 2023, Blue Owl Capital invested $2 billion for a minority stake in Stonepeak, valuing the firm at around $15 billion.
