Michael Bloomberg was born on February 14, 1942, in Brighton, Boston, Massachusetts. His father was a bookkeeper, and his mother was a secretary. Bloomberg displayed early signs of ambition, becoming an Eagle Scout at age 12. He attended Johns Hopkins University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1964. He then pursued a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School in 1966.
Rise to Success
Bloomberg began his career at the investment bank Salomon Brothers in 1966. Over 15 years, he rose to become a partner, overseeing equity trading and information systems. In 1981, after Salomon Brothers was acquired, Bloomberg was terminated but received a $10 million severance package. This became the seed capital for his own company, Innovative Market Systems, later renamed Bloomberg L.P..
