Marianne Cargill Liebmann was born in 1953. She is the great-granddaughter of William Wallace Cargill, who founded Cargill, Inc. in 1865 as a grain storage business. She is the daughter of James R. Cargill and Mary Janet Morse Cargill. She graduated from Montana State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Rise to Success
Liebmann is one of twelve principal heirs to Cargill, Inc.. Her wealth derives primarily from her stake in Cargill, a privately-held company, and annual dividends tied to its performance. The Cargill-MacMillan family collectively owns approximately 90% of the company. She inherited her ownership stake in Cargill Inc. upon the death of her father, James R. Cargill, in 2006.

With over 20 years of professional legal experience, primarily within the international NGO and UK charity sectors, she has worked in areas such as sexual and reproductive health, children and youth development, emergency response, education, and international animal welfare.
