Early Life and Education
Maria Angelicoussis was born in Athens, Greece, in February 1982, as the only child of John Angelicoussis, a renowned shipping magnate, and Elizabeth Angelicoussis. She spent much of her early years in the United Kingdom, attending school there from the age of 11. Angelicoussis graduated with first-class honors in Medicine from Downing College, Cambridge, in 2003, and completed her post-graduate clinical medical studies at University College London in 2006. She then worked as a junior doctor in the UK's National Health Service for two years.
Rise to Success
In 2008, Maria Angelicoussis joined the family enterprise, Angelicoussis Group, as Vice President, becoming deeply involved in its operations alongside her father. She assumed the role of CEO in April 2021 after her father's passing. Under her leadership, the Angelicoussis Group has continued to be a major player in global shipping, operating a diverse fleet of 158 vessels, including oil tankers, liquefied natural gas carriers, and dry bulk carriers, as of 2026. This fleet expansion reflects the strong performance and strategic decisions made under her guidance.
