Early Life
Marc Eugène Charles Ladreit de Lacharrière was born on November 6, 1940, in Nice, France. He comes from a noble lineage with roots in Ardèche. His father was an engineer, and his mother worked in film production. As a youth, he showed an interest in literature and the arts. He attended the prestigious École nationale d'administration from 1968 to 1970.
Rise to Success
Ladreit de Lacharrière started his career in 1961 by starting a teen magazine, which he later sold. He held roles at Suez, Masson, and Valeurs Actuelles. He worked at L'Oréal for fifteen years and served as its CEO for a short time. In 1991, he founded Fimalac (Financière Marc de Lacharrière), an investment group that has made significant investments in digital media, entertainment, and real estate. Fimalac acquired a stake in Fitch Ratings in 1998, which it later divested.
