Early Life
Marc Eugène Charles Ladreit de Lacharrière was born on November 6, 1940, in Nice, France. He comes from a noble family. His father, Pierre Ladreit de Lacharrière, was an engineer, and his mother, Hélène Mora, worked in film production. During his youth, he was interested in literature and the arts.
Rise to Success
Ladreit de Lacharrière began his career in 1961 by launching a teen magazine. After selling the magazine, he worked for companies such as Suez and L'Oréal. He served as the CEO of L'Oréal. In 1991, he founded FIMALAC, an investment group, which has grown to become a significant player in finance and real estate. In 1998, FIMALAC acquired a stake in Fitch Ratings.
Key Business Strategies
His strategy has been centered around investment in diverse sectors. FIMALAC has expanded into digital media, entertainment, and real estate. Between 2015 and 2018, FIMALAC divested its stake in Fitch Group. He purchased all of Fimalac's shares and took the company private in July 2017. In 2024, GML, his family holding company's stake in Warburg Pincus was praised as a constructive shareholder.
Philanthropy
Ladreit de Lacharrière is dedicated to philanthropy. He helped renovate the Théâtre du Rond-Point in Paris. He is also a former vice-chairman of Fondation Agir Contre l'Exclusion (FACE) and a member of various cultural and artistic foundations. He has donated to the Musée du quai Branly. In 2020, he donated 10% of his fortune to a philanthropic foundation. In 2006, he founded the Fondation Culture et Diversité.
