Early Life
Luiz Frias was born in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1964. He is the son of Octávio Frias de Oliveira, the former president of Grupo Folha, and comes from a family with a rich history in journalism and media. He earned an economics degree from the University of São Paulo and holds master's degrees from the University of Cambridge and the University of Paris (Sorbonne).

Frias joined Grupo Folha in June 1981 and quickly advanced. He became CEO in 1989 and chairman in 1991. His leadership transformed Grupo Folha into a modern media company. In 1996, Frias founded UOL (Universo Online), a pioneering Brazilian internet company, which is now one of the most visited websites in the country.
