Early Life
Louis Moore Bacon was born in Raleigh, North Carolina, on July 25, 1956. His father, Zachary Bacon Jr., a real estate developer, instilled in him valuable lessons about business. Bacon attended Episcopal High School and later Middlebury College, where he earned a degree in American literature in 1979. He furthered his education with an MBA in finance from Columbia Business School in 1981.
Rise to Success
Bacon's career began at Bankers Trust after his MBA. He then worked at Walter N. Frank & Co., trading currencies, and later at Shearson Lehman Brothers, where he became senior vice president for futures trading. In 1987, he founded Remington Trading Partners. Bacon's significant achievement came with the founding of Moore Capital Management in 1989, using trading profits and a small inheritance. The fund specialized in global macroeconomic trading, earning him a reputation as one of the most successful global macro investors of his time.
