Lin Jianhua was born in October 1955, in Baotou, Inner Mongolia, China. His ancestral home is in Gaomi, Shandong. During the Cultural Revolution, he taught at a school in Jalaid Banner, Inner Mongolia.
Rise to Success
Lin Jianhua earned a doctorate in chemistry from Peking University in 1986. From 1988 to 1993, he conducted post-doctoral research at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research, Iowa State University, and Ames Laboratory. He began teaching at Peking University in 1986. In 1995, he became a professor at the College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering, Peking University (CCME). He held positions such as Deputy Dean, President of CCME, and Vice-President of Peking University before becoming the president of Peking University in February 2015. He was also the president of Chongqing University and Zhejiang University. In 2003, Lin co-founded Hangzhou First Applied Material Co., Ltd., with his wife, Zhang Hong.
