Julia Margaret Flesher Koch was born on April 12, 1962, in Indianola, Iowa. She grew up in Indianola and later moved to Arkansas at age eight. After graduating from the University of Central Arkansas with a Bachelor of Arts/Science, she pursued a career in the fashion industry.
Rise to Success
Julia moved to New York City in the early 1980s. She worked as an assistant to fashion designer Adolfo, assisting high-profile clients, including former First Lady Nancy Reagan. Her life took a significant turn when she met David Koch through a blind date in 1991 and married him in 1996. David co-owned Koch Industries, a massive private company.
Key Business Strategies
Following David Koch's death in 2019, Julia and her three children inherited a 42% stake in Koch Industries. In June 2024, Julia and her children invested nearly $700 million in BSE Global, the parent company of the Brooklyn Nets and the New York Liberty, showing continued interest in sports investments. She serves on the board of Koch Industries.
Philanthropy
Julia Koch is actively involved in philanthropy. She serves as president of the David H. Koch Foundation, which supports science and medical research, education, and the arts. She established the Julia Koch Family Foundation, which donates to healthcare, educational, and cultural organizations. In February 2024, the Julia Koch Family Foundation gifted $75 million to the Julia Koch Family Ambulatory Care Center at NYU Langone's West Palm Beach location.
