Jose Maria Aristrain de la Cruz was born in Olaberria, Gipuzkoa, Spain, in 1962. He inherited his family's steel business after the death of his father in a helicopter crash in 1986, when he was 24 years old. His father, José María Aristrain Noain, founded the company J.M. Aristrain SA in 1955, which became the core of the Aristrain Group. Aristrain's early life involved a foundation in the steel business, inheriting a legacy from his father who had established a significant presence in the industry.
