Early Life
Jose Isaac Peres was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and earned a degree in Economics from the Faculdade Nacional de Economia da Universidade do Brasil. His journey into the real estate sector began in 1963. While still a student, he started dabbling in the Rio de Janeiro real estate market.
Rise to Success
Peres founded Veplan Imobiliária, which later merged with construtora Cordeiro Guerra to create Veplan Residência. This company was responsible for constructing the Shopping Ibirapuera in São Paulo, one of Brazil's first shopping centers. In 1974, he founded Multiplan, which significantly boosted the shopping center industry in Brazil. Peres focused on innovation and expanding into areas outside the urban centers, turning them into valuable real estate locations. Multiplan now operates 19 shopping malls across Brazil, with over 5,400 stores and serving approximately 180 million visitors annually.
Key Business Strategies
Peres's strategy involved anticipating consumer needs, incorporating cinemas, restaurants, amusement parks, cultural activities, and events into his shopping centers. He also played a key role in establishing the Brazilian Association of Shopping Centers (ABRASCE). In September 2025, Peres and his family owned 32.5% of Multiplan's shares.
