Early Life
Jorge Mas was born in Miami, Florida, on February 28, 1963. His father, Jorge Mas Canosa, was a Cuban exile who fled the country in 1959 following the Cuban Revolution. Mas Canosa became a staunch opponent of both Batista and Castro. Mas attended the University of Miami, earning a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 1984 and a Master's degree in Business Administration in 1985.
Rise to Success
Mas began his career at Church and Tower, his father's telecommunications company, which later became the foundation for MasTec. He took over the company in 1994, transforming it into a multinational construction giant. MasTec is involved in infrastructure projects, including telecommunications, power generation, and oil and gas pipelines. He co-founded Neff Rentals, a construction equipment rental company, which he sold in 2005 for $510 million.

Under Jorge Mas's leadership, MasTec has expanded through strategic acquisitions and a focus on diversified infrastructure projects. He is the largest shareholder and chairman of MasTec, which, with revenues of $12.3 billion in 2024, is one of the largest Hispanic-owned companies in the U.S..
