Early Life
John Van Lieshout was born in the Netherlands in 1946 and immigrated to Australia with his family in 1960. He was one of thirteen children. After arriving, the family settled in Queensland, where Van Lieshout completed his education.
Rise to Success
Van Lieshout began his career in the furniture industry. In 1970, he founded Super A-Mart (later known as Amart Furniture). Under his leadership, the company grew into one of Australia's largest furniture retailers. He sold Super A-Mart in 2006 for A$500 million.

After selling Super A-Mart, Van Lieshout transitioned into property development through his Unison Projects Group.
