John H. Tyson was born on September 5, 1953, in Springdale, Arkansas. He is the grandson of John W. Tyson, the founder of Tyson Foods, and the son of Don Tyson, who also served as the CEO of the company. Tyson graduated from Springdale High School and later attended Southern Methodist University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration.
Rise to Success
Tyson's career at Tyson Foods began in his teenage years. He joined the board of directors in 1984, became vice chairman in 1990, and was president of the beef and pork division in 1993. He became CEO in 1999 and held the position until 2006. Since 1998, he has served as Chairman.
