John W. Stanton was born in 1955 and grew up in the Seattle area, attending Newport High School in Bellevue, Washington. He pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor of Arts from Whitman College and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Rise to Success
Stanton's career began in 1982 as one of the first employees at McCaw Cellular Communications, where he eventually became the COO and Vice Chairman. He later founded Western Wireless Corporation in 1992, serving as its CEO and Chairman until 2005. He also served as the founder, chairman, and CEO of VoiceStream Wireless. VoiceStream was acquired by Deutsche Telekom in 2001 and renamed T-Mobile USA. Stanton's leadership was instrumental in the growth and success of these companies, contributing significantly to the wireless industry's development.
