Early Life
Jin Xin was born in Shenyang, China, on August 13, 1967. At a young age, she showed a passion for dance and joined the People's Liberation Army dance troupe at nine. At the age of twelve, she transferred to the People's Liberation Army Art Academy. After graduating in 1984, she returned to the Shenyang military dance troupe. Jin later won a national dance competition.
Rise to Success
Jin's career took off when she moved to New York on a scholarship to study modern dance for four years. In 1999, she opened China's first independent dance troupe, Jin Xing Dance Theater. In 2013, Jin began her television career as a judge on China's first season of So You Think You Can Dance, and her popularity led to her own nationally broadcast show. Jin is recognized as a highly visible openly transgender public figure in China. In 1995, she underwent gender reassignment surgery in Beijing, becoming one of the first openly transgender people in China. She is also the host of The Jin Xing Show.
