Jerzy Starak was born on December 12, 1947, in Cieszyn, Poland. He pursued his education at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW), where he studied agricultural economics. During the communist era, he founded Comindex, which evolved into one of the largest Polish-owned enterprises.

In the 1990s, Starak introduced major FMCG companies like Nutricia and Colgate-Palmolive to the Polish market. A pivotal moment in his career came in 2000 when he acquired Polpharma, transforming it into a leading pharmaceutical company. He holds significant stakes in ZT Kruszwica, a publicly traded agribusiness, and Herbapol Lublin, a producer of herbal products.
