Jeremy D. Allaire was born on May 13, 1971, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was raised in Winona, Minnesota, by parents with a background in psychology and press editing. He graduated from Macalester College in 1993 with a degree in political science and philosophy, concentrating in economics. Allaire's career began with an internet consulting firm, Global Internet Horizons, aimed at helping media publishers and marketers establish a presence on the World Wide Web. The company's IPO was in January 1999, and it was later acquired by Macromedia in March 2001 for $360 million.
