In 1969, he started his fast-food venture by opening the first KFC outlet in Western Australia. He then acquired the rights to Burger King in Australia. Due to an existing trademark, the brand was rebranded as Hungry Jack's. Cowin built Hungry Jack's into a successful chain. He has also been the chairman of Domino's Pizza Enterprises.
