Early Life
Henry Davis was born in 1951. His grandfather started the business in 1920. Davis joined the family business, Greater Omaha Packing, full-time in 1973 after graduating from the University of Denver with a degree in business and a minor in computer science.
Rise to Success
Davis took over as president in 1987. At the time, Greater Omaha was bringing in $130 million in sales a year from about 650 cattle a day. Davis revolutionized the company by jumping on a trend Iowa Beef Packers had started. He grew the business tenfold after taking over in 1987. The company now has annual revenues of $1.7 billion. Greater Omaha Packing is the fifth-largest beef producer in the U.S..
Key Business Strategies
Davis made a key decision to move the company beyond its' past as a carcass processor and into the future as a boxed beef and value-added processor. Davis expanded the company's market share worldwide, with beef shipments to more than 70 countries around the world. Greater Omaha processes 2,400 head of the nation's finest, high-quality cattle daily.
Philanthropy
Davis has supported youth and the arts, serving on the boards of the Joslyn Art Museum, Kaneko, and more. He supports organizations like Project Harmony. Davis also donated beef to Ukraine to feed over 270,000 people. In 2020, he was cited by The Orange County Museum of Art as one of its lead donors.
