Early Life and Education
Born Siti Hartati Tjakra Murdaya on August 29, 1946, in Jakarta, Hartati grew up in a devout Buddhist family. She studied economics at Trisakti University. After graduating, she worked in her father's sawmill company as a general manager. In 1984, she attended an executive program at Stanford University and another at the National University of Singapore in 1985.
Rise to Success
In the early 1970s, Hartati and her husband, Murdaya Poo, founded PT CCM, which initially focused on electricity and construction. Through CCM, she built a diverse conglomerate with interests in engineering, IT, timber, plantations, consumer goods, and real estate. CCM's real estate assets include shopping centers, office buildings, hotels, and the Jakarta International Expo Center. The group employed approximately 45,000 people across various industries as of 2013.
Key Business Strategies
Hartati’s business strategy involved diversifying CCM’s investments across multiple sectors. She expanded into the production of Nike shoes, later developing the League brand of sports footwear. She also secured licenses for major technology firms. Furthermore, her company acquired PT Metropolitan Kentjana in 2002 and PT Jakarta International Trade Fair.
Philanthropy
Hartati is known for her philanthropic activities, particularly within the Buddhist community. She served as the chairwoman of the Leadership of Indonesian Buddhists (Walubi). She founded Yayasan Kepedulian Sosial Paramita.
