He completed his schooling in Kolkata and earned a Bachelor's degree in Economics from St. Xavier's College, Kolkata. He furthered his education with a Master of Business Administration from the International Institute for Management Development in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Goenka's career began in 1983 when he became the Managing Director of CEAT Ltd. at the age of 24. In 1988, he succeeded his father as the Chairman of RPG Enterprises. Under his leadership, the group expanded through mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures.
