Early Life
Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani was born in Doha, Qatar, on August 30, 1959. He is the fifth son of Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani, a member of the Al Thani ruling family. His early life was influenced by his father's charitable contributions and values. He received his primary and secondary education in Doha and later pursued studies in Egypt before traveling to the United Kingdom to study English.
Rise to Success
HBJ's career began in 1982 when he became the Director of the Office of the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture. He then served as the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture from 1989 to 1992. In 1992, he was appointed as the Foreign Minister of Qatar, a position he held until 2013. He was appointed as the Prime Minister of Qatar in 2007, while still serving as Foreign Minister. During his tenure, Qatar experienced significant economic and diplomatic expansion, particularly through the exploitation of its natural gas reserves. He also served as the head of the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), managing hundreds of billions of dollars in assets.
