Glenn Russell Dubin was born on April 13, 1957, in Washington Heights, New York City. He was raised in a Jewish middle-class family. His father worked as a taxi driver and later in dress manufacturing, and his mother was a hospital administrator. Dubin graduated from Stony Brook University in 1978 with a degree in economics, where he also played football and lacrosse.

Dubin began his career as a retail stockbroker at E. F. Hutton & Co. in 1978. In 1984, he co-founded Dubin & Swieca Capital Management, which was later renamed Corbin Capital Partners.
