Early Life
Girdhari Jaisinghani, the eldest of five siblings, was born on September 6, 1944. His family started a business in 1964, with the establishment of Sind Electric Stores by his father, Thakurdas Jaisinghani. The store was located in Mumbai's Lohar Chawl, a hub for electrical goods. After his father's death, Girdhari, at 16, along with his brother Inder, took over the family business.
Rise to Success
In 1975, Girdhari and his brothers set up Thakur Industries, which later entered into a lease agreement with the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation to establish a factory for manufacturing cables and wires. In 1983, Girdhari, along with his brothers Inder, Ajay, and Ramesh, registered Polycab Industries, a partnership firm, as a small-scale industrial unit.
Key Business Strategies
Polycab's success can be attributed to its focus on manufacturing, integrating operations, and consistently improving margins. The company expanded into making products such as electric fans, LED lighting, switches, and switchgear. Polycab also invested heavily in branding and marketing, gaining visibility through advertising during the Indian Premier League and partnering with brand ambassadors.
