Early Life and Education
Farkhad Akhmedov was born in Baku, Azerbaijan SSR, on September 15, 1955. He was raised in Goychay, Azerbaijan. At the age of 15, he moved to Moscow. Akhmedov attended Vocational Technical School No. 85 before serving in the Navy from 1975 to 1977. He graduated from the Moscow Veterinary Academy in 1983.
Rise to Success
Akhmedov's career began in the 1980s, trading Russian sables in London. In 1987, he founded Tansley Trading, which supplied equipment to Russian gas producers. His major break came with his stake in Northgas. He later acquired full control. In 2012, he sold his stake in Northgas to Novatek for $1.375 billion.

His business strategy included acquiring shares in Northgas, a Siberian gas producer, and eventually selling them for a significant profit.
