Evangelos Marinakis was born on July 30, 1967, in Piraeus, Greece. He is the son of Miltiadis Marinakis, a shipowner and politician from Crete. He holds a B.A. in International Business Administration and an M.Sc. in International Relations. Growing up in a family with strong ties to shipping and politics, Marinakis was exposed to the maritime industry and public life early on.
Rise to Success
Marinakis founded Capital Maritime & Trading Corp. in 2005, which became the cornerstone of his business empire. He expanded into owning and operating a diverse fleet of vessels, including tankers, container ships, and gas carriers. Marinakis served as Chairman of Capital Product Partners L.P. from 2007 to 2014. He also founded Crude Carriers Corporation. He has built a fleet of over 140 vessels. Marinakis entered the media world in 2017 with the foundation of Alter Ego Media.
