Early Life and Education
Euisun Chung was born in Seoul, South Korea, on October 18, 1970. He is the only son of Chung Mong-koo, the honorary chairman of Hyundai Motor Group. Chung's educational journey began at Whimoon High School. He pursued higher education at Korea University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration in 1993. He furthered his studies with an MBA from the University of San Francisco School of Business in 1997.
Rise to Success
Chung's career began in 1994 at Hyundai Precision and Industries (now Hyundai Mobis). He then worked at the New York office of Itochu Corporation, a Japanese trading company, before joining Hyundai Motor Company as Head of Purchasing. He held several key positions within Hyundai, including Deputy Head of the Domestic Sales Division and Deputy Head of Corporate Planning. From 2005 to 2009, he served as the President and CEO of Kia Motors, a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Group. During his tenure, he is credited with revitalizing Kia's design and improving its market performance. Chung played a pivotal role in launching the Genesis luxury brand and Hyundai's high-performance N sub-brand. He was inaugurated as Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group in 2020, succeeding his father, Chung Mong-koo.
