Early Life
Enrique Klar Razon Jr. was born on March 3, 1960, in Manila, Philippines, to a third-generation Spanish-Filipino family involved in marine cargo handling. At 17, he left school to work in his family's cargo-loading business, starting in a minimum-wage position and working his way up. Razon earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from De La Salle University in 1980.
Rise to Success
In 1987, Razon co-founded International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) with the Soriano Group to bid for the Manila International Container Terminal (MICT) contract. ICTSI won the MICT contract in 1988, and Razon led its development. Under his leadership, ICTSI expanded globally, managing terminals across Asia-Pacific, Eastern Europe, Africa, and the Americas. Razon became the chairman of ICTSI in 1995 after the passing of his father, Enrique Razon Sr..
Key Business Strategies
Razon's key business strategies include a focus on long-term vision and strategic expansion into new markets. He has diversified his investments beyond port operations, including the development of Solaire Resort & Casino through Bloomberry Resorts Corporation. He has also invested in infrastructure and utilities, such as Manila Water and energy projects.
Philanthropy
Razon is known for his philanthropy, contributing through the ICTSI Foundation, Inc., which supports various causes. This includes support for education, healthcare, sports development (including Philippine golf), and community development. In 2003, he donated P50 million to De La Salle University's sports development.
