Early Life
Eduardo Hochschild Beeck was born in Lima, Peru, on December 4, 1963. He is the son of Luis Hochschild Plaut and Ana Beeck Navarro. His family has a long history in the mining industry, as his great-uncle, Moritz Hochschild, founded Hochschild Mining in 1911. He earned a degree in Engineering Physics from Tufts University in 1987.
Rise to Success
After graduating, Hochschild joined the Hochschild Mining Group, working as a mine safety assistant at the Arcata unit. In 1998, he took over the leadership of the family business following his father's death. Hochschild became the Chairman of Hochschild Mining in 2006.
Key Business Strategies
Hochschild's key business strategy involves the exploration, mining, processing, and sale of precious metals, particularly silver and gold. The company focuses on operating mines in the Americas, including Peru, Argentina, and Brazil. A significant move was the acquisition of the remaining stake in the Inmaculada mine in 2019, strengthening their position in the Peruvian market.
Philanthropy
Hochschild is also involved in philanthropic endeavors. He and his wife founded the NGO Misión Huascarán, dedicated to developing projects in the region. He is also involved with The Nature Conservancy.
