Edir Macedo was born on February 18, 1945, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He was raised in a Catholic family and began a career as a civil servant in 1963.
Rise to Success
Macedo converted to Pentecostalism in 1965. In 1977, he founded the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (UCKG) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The church quickly grew, expanding both in Brazil and internationally. In 1989, Macedo purchased the commercial television network Record, later known as RecordTV, which significantly boosted his wealth.
