Douglas M. Leone was born in Genoa, Italy, on July 4, 1957. At the age of 11, he immigrated to the United States with his family, settling in Mount Vernon, New York.
Career
Leone's career began in sales and management positions at prominent technology companies like Sun Microsystems, Hewlett-Packard, and Prime Computer. In 1988, he joined Sequoia Capital, where he would leave a lasting impact. Leone became a managing partner in 1996 and then the global managing partner in 2012. During his tenure, he played a crucial role in Sequoia's investments in numerous successful companies including Aruba Networks, ServiceNow, RingCentral, and Nubank. He also led Sequoia’s international expansion into China and India, bolstering the firm’s global footprint. In 2022, Leone stepped aside as managing partner but remains a general partner at Sequoia.
